I would love to put his pictures up but since I am cursing my government and this kind man fed my greedy brain with his opinions below, I thought it is best that I do not =D
I met this pakcik (uncle) during the Machap campaign. When I first met him, he was wearing a white shirt with the Rocket logo on it. Intrigued, I was looking for an opportunity to speak to him. When the opportunity came, I asked him why did he join DAP in the first place.
Pakcik laughed at me and I was beginning to worry that perhaps he wasn’t a DAP member but only someone who was wearing the shirt because it was given to him.
As soon as he told me that he joined the party the year that Lim Kit Siang joined, I felt less worried and less silly about the possibility of saying the wrong thing.
Pakcik said this, he joined DAP because it has always been a party that represents all race and not just the Chinese community. DAP is a party that truly believes that there really should be a Malaysia for Malaysians.
His reasons for not joining UMNO:
1. Race: They always use “race” as their agenda and to segregate the people instead of uniting them as Malaysians.
2. Economy: They will always use the “economy” to deceive the public, the deceive the villagers, that our country’s economy is performing instead of revealing the truth.
3. Culture: They use “culture” to divide us, e.g. you don’t see many Malays today going to Chinese home to celebrate their new year because they serve pork and their homes are not “halal”.
4. Religion: They use “religion” especially Islam, to instill fear and negative ideas among the non – muslims, hence bringing the people even further apart.
By doing this, UMNO demonstrates no interest of creating a Malaysian community that calls themselves Malaysian, instead off Malay, Chinese Malaysian, Indian Chinese, etc.
